The giant of the motoring industry, General Motors, who own brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac and Buick, have reveasleda line-up of new cars. Just last month, the motoring giant recovered after 40 days of bankruptcy, within those 40 days, the government invested $50 billion, making it around 60% owned by the public.

Now that General Motors are save from bankruptcy for a while, they are starting to look ahead and make changes to their brands. Just a few days ago, they announced a couple of new ways to sell their vehicles. One method that started on August 11th was listing the new cars on the online auction site, eBay.

On August 11th, General Motors invited more than 100 consumers to take part in a event with then in Detroit. The event was used to show off the new range of cars that General Motors will be releasing in the next year. After recovering from their bankruptcy troubles, they have had another look at their model ranges on all their companies and have said it needs to change.

At the moment, most of their cars are large tank like vehicles that do very little miles per gallon, at one point these were very popular with Americans, however, motorists are choosing smaller and more greener cars these days. To try and attract younger and greener customers, they have created a series of new models for their brands that are smaller and more fuel efficient.

A couple of the cars announced that will be very popular is the Chevrolet Volt. This car is scheduled for release sometime in 2010 and it’s become popular due to the number of miles per gallon it can do. Currently it’s estimated that the car can do 230 miles per gallon, which should reduce running costs greatly.

The other big announcement for new cars is the new model Cadillac. The new Cadillac is a new small sports sedan and it will have either rear wheel or four wheel drive. This new car is going to be smaller than the popular CTS model.

At the event General Motors announce a huge number of changes that will be coming to all their brands within the next few years. Some of those plans included doubling the amount of models Buick have, going from the current 3, up to 6. We’ll have to keep one eye open to see what cars are released first and what sort of effect they have on General Motors’ market share. If we’re lucky, some of these models will get into the UK in the contract hire market. Currently if you are after leasing a large American car, you have to get a Chrysler lease. Another possibility would be to go for cheap van leasing considering they are the closest to a Chevrolet, size wise.
